Our Story

Built on faith.
Trained for competition.

What if a gym could build more than athletes?

The Beginning

We saw a need in our community for a place where fitness could be used to advance the Kingdom of God while strengthening the mind, body, and spirit.

How It Started

A vision that refused
to stay inside four walls.

I Am Athletics began at Harvest Katy, where Pastor Kris and Shyla carried a conviction they couldn’t shake: ministry was never meant to stop at the church doors. They wanted to pour into the community outside the four walls — to meet people where they already were, on the field and on the floor, not just in the pews.

In 2026, that vision became real.

What started as a heart for the community became a facility with a team behind it. Marcus McIntosh brought mental performance and Christian counseling — the conviction that an athlete’s mind and identity deserve the same intentional coaching as their body. Marcus Tucker, a former NFL player and worship leader, brought elite-level training and a heart for worship, holding both without apology.

Together, that’s what I Am Athletics is: a place where the training is serious, the faith is real, and nobody has to leave part of themselves at the door.

Mission

Our Mission

Beyond speed, strength, and skill.

We are committed to developing confident athletes, advocating for mental wellness, building strong character, and creating a community where every person feels seen, supported, and encouraged.

Identity

How We Coach

Who God created you to be.

Through elite coaching, faith, mentorship, and genuine relationships, we help people discover their identity, grow in purpose, and become who God created them to be.

At I Am Athletics, we’re not just building better athletes — we’re building stronger people, stronger families, and a stronger community, one workout at a time.

Leadership

The team on the floor with your athlete.

Coached by former NFL and NBA players — elite experience, brought straight to the training floor.

Talent opens the door. Discipline sustains it.

As a former professional football player with three seasons in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers and three seasons in the CFL with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, I understand what it takes to compete at the highest level. My journey through football taught me that talent may open the door, but discipline, consistency, faith, and relentless hard work are what sustain success.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Northern Michigan University, and today I use both my education and professional experience to mentor athletes on and off the field.

True strength is developed physically, mentally, and spiritually. My mission is to help athletes become faster, stronger, more explosive, and more confident while building character, discipline, and purpose. Every training session is designed to challenge you to reach your full potential and honor the gifts God has given you.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart…”

Jeremiah 1:5 — our foundation

This verse reminds us that every athlete has a God-given purpose. My goal is to help you discover purpose, maximize your potential, and pursue excellence with integrity, humility, and unwavering faith.

Whether you’re chasing a starting position, preparing for collegiate interest, professional opportunities, or simply striving to become your best, I’m committed to helping you build a championship mindset — because greatness is earned through faith, discipline, consistency, and relentless effort.

When the spikes come off, who are you?

I’m a former track and field athlete, originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan, now rooted here in the Houston area. Track and field shaped me. The discipline, the training, the standard. But track and field also taught me something harder: when the spikes come off the track and the ball stops bouncing, a lot of us struggle. We struggle because somewhere along the way we made the sport us. And when it ends, we don’t know who’s left.

What pushed me to get involved wasn’t the training side. It was watching kids struggle with identity and anxiety, carrying pressure nobody was helping them name, let alone carry. I’ve seen it in young athletes who look fine on the outside and are quietly falling apart underneath.

That’s why I founded RESET Christian Counseling. As a certified Christian counselor, I provide faith-based 1-on-1 life coaching, counseling, and mental health & performance work for athletes navigating the weight of competition, for adults carrying pressure they rarely talk about, and for anyone in the space between one chapter and the next.

Between coaching youth basketball and building this facility alongside our team, the thread is always the same: I want people to know their identity was never the jersey. The jersey was something they did. It was never who they are.

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Isaiah 40:31

That verse has carried me. Strength that gets renewed, not strength you have to manufacture on your own every morning. That’s what I want for every person who walks through our doors, whether they’re chasing a starting spot or just trying to find their footing again.

Fifteen years in the league. Now it’s your turn.

I spent 15 seasons in the NBA. That’s not a number I lead with to impress anybody — it’s the reason I know exactly what separates the players who make it from the ones who don’t. It isn’t talent. Talent gets you noticed. What keeps you in the league for fifteen years is work nobody sees, done on days nobody’s watching.

Now I coach basketball at I Am Athletics on our full-size indoor court in Katy. Ball-handling, shooting mechanics, footwork, and the basketball IQ that separates good players from great ones — taught the way it was taught to me, with nothing skipped and no shortcuts sold.

What I want for every kid who steps on this floor is simple: that they leave knowing what real work feels like, and knowing somebody in the gym believed they could handle it.
